Refik Anadol is an internationally renowned media artist and pioneer in the aesthetics of machine intelligence. His works address the challenges and possibilities that computing has imposed on humanity and what it means to be human in the age of AI.
Refik Anadol’s projects are displayed on massive digital canvases that show a series of animations, always moving, always bright and changing colours. How would a book represent his work and open a window to his complex universe?
I found my approach to this project by admiring Refik Anadol’s work. The beautiful display of his projects is in no physical way possible for a book to represent it and its complexity. My goal is to show what his digital work would feel like in a book, and how to document his moving work through pages.
I want to highlight this contrast. Showing on the cover only a caption of his career, just like how museums display art and let the work speak for itself. To find the right neutral typeface, never interfering with his work, but shaping the text with the grid that supports the page.
