





The Marchés Publics de Montréal offers people the opportunity to support local merchants and buy locally sourced ingredients. Consumers today are becoming more environmentally conscious and aware of their food.
To answer the locals’ dedication, MPM is branding and packaging seeds of farmers’ crops and artisanal products. Since MPM products are very eye-catching, their packaging needs to be interesting and able to compete with other products.
A kit is an organized set of items for specific purposes. When I think of designing seed packaging, I think of something compact. Flower seeds are small, but even larger seeds like pumpkin seeds are small enough to fit in unconventionally sized seed packets. The branding for MPM had to represent Montreal as well as the MPM.
A known item for its compact organization is the wallet. There are many ways to construct a wallet, but for simplicity purposes, I made it from a single piece of paper folded conveniently to be able to hold three seed packets. The visual is inspired by the STM spelling the letter M for MPM, Montreal or metro. A subtle detail is that the lines of the letter M on the front also doubles as entangled roots when unfolded. The seed packets are business card-sized and designed to fit neatly in the kit.
